Talsi Christian School, Talsi, Latvia
Lamar Baptist has been involved in Talsi Christian School since its founding in 1995. In 1993 Inguna Gruznina was called by God to open a Christian school in a former Soviet Union Republic that had spent 50 years being taught their was no God and that to worship God was a sign of weakness. In 1995 she stepped out in faith and opens a school providing a Christian education for students in grades 1-4.God has blessed the school and it now provides Christian education for grades 1-12. Students not only receive an education steeped in Christian ethics, but one that is ranked as one of the best of all in Latvia.
The goal of Talsi Christian School is to train and equip the future leaders of Latvia. It's graduates have gone on to become ministers, missionaries, doctors, dentists, engineers and business leaders who are helping shape Latvia into a nation focused on God and the belief that He alone can offer hope to them as a nation.
Every year a group from Lamar Baptist goes to Talsi to conduct a Youth Camp. Students from all over Latvia and other Baltic Republics attend. Many have come to know Christ during this camp. Many of the students from Lamar who have helped in the camp have formed lasting friendships with the students they meet. Every four years Lamar Baptist helps sponsor a choir from Talsi Christian School to come to the United States to share their music and their testimony. Further information on the Talsi Christian School can be found at www.talsichristianschool.com or www.413foundation.org.
Joel and Jill Skinner (and their children Dara and Dade) were sent by Lamar Baptist Church in 2009 to partner with Africa Inland Mission in Uganda with the vision of seeing “Christ centered churches among all African peoples, with priority for the unreached.” Over the last five years they have been involved in university discipleship, agriculture, leadership training and various areas of church work. They are currently serving as the Unit Leaders for Southwest Uganda, overseeing the vision, strategy, and ministries reaching out to the communities and people groups throughout this area.
